E-Paath - A Perfect Computer-based Learning Tool For Your Children
If you are looking for good computer based learning materials for your small children, e-paaath (E-/Online Lesson) is a perfect choice esp. for the Nepali education scenario. I don't know how much has been done to take this software to the reach of the students/children but I think this software can be a very useful interactive learning material for children.
Developed by OLE Nepal in collaboration with the Department of Education (Nepal), this web-based software provides several modules of online lessons for classes 2-6. The software consists of 18-30 lessons organized in a weekly fashion for four subjects: Nepali, English, Mathematics, and Science. The contents for science are available in both English and Nepali languages. However, mathematics is available only in Nepali language.
E-paath is a flash based content and hence requires flash player and can be run through any of the major web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. Since e-paath is a web based content, you can run it in any platform without any problem (I had to change a little bit of code in karma.html file to run the tool smoothly in Linux but its still fine; having a web server to serve the pages solves all errors though).
You can download e-paath from HERE. For installation help, you can refer to this page. You can also access the software online from HERE. Btw, there is no specifically linux version of tool available in the website (except for Sugar desktop environment) and don't try to mirror the online version of e-paath as flash contents seem to be internally referencing the configuration files. Your best bet is to download either of the two available versions and then delete all the unnecessary stuffs in there. It just runs fine.

Wappalyzer - Browser Extension To Identify Web Servers
Wappalyzer is a very useful browser extension that reveals the web technologies and server softwares used behind to empower any webpage. This extension identifies different CMS, e-commerce portals, blogging platforms, web servers, frameworks, analytic tools, etc.
This very useful browser extension is available for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. It is quite useful in server fingerprinting and identification steps. Wappalyzer tracks and detects several hundred applications under several categories.
Wappalyzer for Mozilla Firefox
Wappalyzer for Google Chrome
Wappalyzer @ GitHub
Once you install the addon and reload the browser, you will see the icons for identified applications on the right side of address bar (near to the bookmark & reload icon) in Mozilla Firefox. You can click in that area for more details.
One particular setting you would like to disable is the tracking and gathering of anonymous data which is *said* to be used for research purposes. You can turn off the tracking by going to the addon's preference page. Screenshot below shows the preference page in Mozilla Firefox.

Download Windows Binaries For Python Packages
Someone from the University of California has made it easier for windows python users to install python extension packages easily by providing several 32-bit and 64-bit windows binaries for several scientific open source python libraries.
If you can't figure out your way in installing python libraries, you can download the binaries for several libraries from HERE.
Most binaries are built from source code found on PyPI or in the projects public revision control systems. Definitely the page to be bookmarked for the windows python'ers if you want to easily install python libraries :)

Decode The Dean Edwards Javascript Packer
Well today I had to unpack some javascript code from Dean Edwards packer and started to check how this tool works. I opened the official packer page and then thought of giving some inputs and analyzing outputs. But, wait!!! there's this "decode" button(in disabled state) and probably I can decode the stuff I was given.
I used the firebug and quickly removed one attribute each of the lower textarea and decode button. You'll have to remove the "readonly" attribute of the lower textarea and "disabled" attribute of the "docode" button. Now you can paste the packed code in the lower textarea and decode the packed code easily. Not the real reversing of the algorithm itself but works perfectly.
And you can beautify the unpacked script using some online beautifiers such as this.
I hope it helps some of you guys ;)

Turning The Internet Upside Down - A Prank To Play
Probably one of the best modern day april fool prank that should be played by the network admins to their users, I came acrosss this cool little trick to turn the whole internet upside down and thought to share with you guys.
With a linux gateway and some pretty basic linux skills(in fact, everything is well explained in the webpage & hence doesn't require much of skills), you can turn the internet upside down. The official webpage shows how to configure everything to play prank on your wi-fi stealing neighbours.
Ubuntu help also includes a good HowTo.

NTC Now Offering Bill Payments From MPoS & Pre-paid Recharge Cards
The leading telecommunication company Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited commonly known as Nepal Telecom is now offering its customer the ability to pay the bills for post-paid, land-line telephone and ADSL services by using its pre-paid recharge card or MPoS. Now the nepal telecom users can make use of MPoS(Mobile Point of Solution) system to clear their bills. Thus there will be no more need of waiting for your turn in the telecom counters and no need to face the sluggish and irritating telecom workers :D(happened to me in Banepa) for clearing the bills for these common telecom services.
Nepal telecom allows its customers to use both namaste pre-paid recharge card and MPoS technology to pay the bills of GSM post-paid, PSTN(landline) and ADSL services. With these methods, you can pay from Rs. 100 to at most Rs. 1000 at once as per your necessity.
Follow one of the below stated methods to pay your bills:
From IVR(Interactive Voice Response): Dial 1413 and follow the instructions for bill payments.
From USSD i.e. pre-paid recharge card: Buy the amount of recharge chard of your choice/necessity and dial *411*Pin No.*10# from your GSM post-paid mobile.
From MPoS Technology: Go to your Nearest MPoS retailer and get the payment done by providing your GSM post-paid mobile number, PSTN number or corresponding ADSL number. For the list of MPoS retailer, visit this link.
Also, you can verify your payments and it is recommended you check the payment status before and after doing the payment. Following are the procedures for verifying your payment:
GSM post-paid: Send new message to 1400 by typing cb.
PSTN: Dial 1606 and get your payment information from IVR.
ADSL (Unlimited and Volume Based Service): You can view your payment details by going to www.ntc.net.np/internet/adsl. Open the above URL to access online Customer Care Interface and login to the system with your login details.
I hope this post counts useful for you. :)

Useful Sites To Mass Check Availability Of Username In Many Social Networking Sites
Sorry for not posting for long time. This sinusitis is killing my cells. Anyway I thought to share two useful websites that can be used to check the availability of the username in numerous social networking sites at once.
Two websites that allow checking availability of username and vanity URL are:
a) Namechk.com
b) Knowem.com
These two websites will perform mass lookup for the presence of given username in hundreds of social networking and social bookmarking websites. Also, the above provided links can be used in the process of doxing(Doxing is a technique of tracing someone or gather information about an individual using sources on the internet. - from urbandictionary).

Tools For Customizing Ubuntu Into Your Custom Distro
Hello everybody, I'm listing some of the tools that can be used to customize the ubuntu distro and create your own flavour of ubuntu. I'm saying ubuntu specifically because I've tested them on ubuntu but some work for all debian based distro and maybe some work for all linux distro.
If you want to customize the ubuntu distro, you need an ISO file of the ubuntu of your preferred version. For the terminal lovers, the following two links are very helpful:
Ubuntu Live CD Customization
Ubuntu Install CD Customization
Now for those people who hate terminal and would like to the same thing using GUI, I'm listing here few of the tools that you can use.
1) Ubuntu Customization Kit: UCK is a tool that helps you customizing official Ubuntu Live CDs (including Kubuntu/Xubuntu and Edubuntu) to your needs. You can add any package to the live system like, for example, language packs, applications, etc.
2) RemasterSys: This script creates a livecd of the installed system. You can either make a distributable livecd or backup of your system. The resulting iso file can be used on any other PC that still meets the original minimum requirements of Ubuntu or Debian. Things like the graphics card and other hardware will be configured and setup automatically and you do not have to use identical hardware. Ubuntu's live boot tool, casper, currently blacklists Nvidia and AMD proprietary drivers so they will not be available on the live system and will need to be reinstalled after installation of your custom system.
3) Reconstructor Engine: Reconstructor is a GNU/Linux distribution customization and creation toolkit. It allows for the customization of the Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution. Customizations include boot logo image and text color, wallpaper, themes, icons, applications, and more. Personally, I didn't like this one very much. Check this site.
4) Live Magic: Live-helper is a collection of programs that can be used to build Debian Live system images. The philosophy behind live-helper is to provide a collection of small, simple, and easily understood tools that can be used in your own program to automate building of a Live system.
5) Live Scripts: Linux Live is a set of shell scripts which allows you to create your own Live Linux from an already installed Linux distribution. The Live system you create will be bootable from CD-ROM or a disk device, for example USB Flash Drive, USB Pen Drive, Camera connected to USB port, and so on. People use Linux Live scripts to boot Linux from iPod as well.
6) Revisor For Fedora: Revisor enables you to customize and compose your own Fedora based installation and live media. It does so by presenting you a GUI with all options you can click your way through, a command-line interface and extended configuration files for more advanced users. Features that Revisor has vary from customizing the packages available during the installation and/or installed on the live media, to fully customizing the desktop environment for the live media.
I hope these helps. :)

Search Exploits & Vulnerability With Exploitsearch.net
The site, www.exploitsearch.net, is an attempt at cross referencing data from various sources and making the resulting database available to everyone.
Unlike other exploit search engines which are simply custom google searches, this site actually crawls the source sites and parses the contained data. Once the data is collected and parsed, it is inserted into the www.exploitsearch.net database and becomes available for searching.
www.exploitsearch.net
Currently utilizes data from NVD, OSVDB, SecurityFocus, Exploit-DB, Metasploit, Nessus, OpenVAS, and PacketStorm.Comes handy for better results. :)

Online Alternative To Matlab
Today, I visited a website which provided the service of working on Matlab online in a website without any need of installing Matlab software. Although not comprehensive as the software itself, this web version can be quite useful in some cases.
This site offers as of now more than 500 Matlab R2009A commands. Only text commands are supported for now and they are working for graphical supports such as plots.

Advanced HTTP Fingerprinting With httprecon
One of the first steps in web server hacking involves fingerprinting to gather information regarding the web server and various mods applied to it. Fingerprinting the web server manually can be cumbersome so some good folks have developed an advanced open-source fingerprinting tool known as httprecon
*Description from official webpage:
The httprecon project is doing some research in the field of web server fingerprinting, also known as http fingerprinting. The goal is the highly accurate identification of given httpd implementations. This is very important within professional vulnerability analysis.
Besides the discussion of different approaches and the documentation of gathered results also an implementation for automated analysis is provided. This software shall improve the easyness and efficiency of this kind of enumeration. Traditional approaches as like banner-grabbing, status code enumeration and header ordering analysis are used. However, many other analysis techniques were introduced to increase the possibilities of accurate web server fingerprinting.

Download Scribd.com PDFs Without Any Account
Earlier today, I had to download a PDF document from scribd.com but I didn't have any account in scribd.com and I have coded a script that would help me download the PDFs from scribd.com without any account.
To access the service, visit this link.
It will ask you for the URL of the PDF document. Just copy and paste the URL from address bar when you are viewing the PDF in scribd.com.
I hope this becomes useful for you sometimes. :)

Note: Many people emailed me that the tool is not working. In fact, scribd has changed the way the documents are downloaded. Once I find the new bypassing method, I'll redo the script.
